Canon EF 24-105mm F/4L IS USM
$1,249.00
Released September, 2004
The Pros:Excellent build quality--can withstand regular use and abuse well. Pretty versatile - large zoom range performs well in a variety of situations. Image stabilization - improves image sharpness shooting in hand.
The Cons:Lacks a professional fixed aperture of f/2.8 - poorer in low light, not as good at separating a subject from their background. The idiot who above leaves IS turned on when using a tripod needs to think again. Zoom quality degrades the further you zoom in.
The Canon EF 24-105mm F/4L IS USM is a general-purpose lens designed to cover a large zoom area ranging from 24mm wide-angle to 105mm portrait-length telephoto. It was constructed from a single Super-UD glass element and three aspherical lenses, and it’s designed to minimize chromatic aberration and distortion.

Featured also is Image Stabilizer technology for steadying camera shake up to three stops, a ring-type USM for silent but quick AF, and full-time manual focus. Critics say the Canon EF 24-105mm F/4L IS USM is solidly built; that the zoom and focus rings are smooth; and that it feels nice and handles well. It is however heavy, it doesn’t extend with focusing, and the barrel doesn’t rotate.
