Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM

$1,449.00 Released September, 2004

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Considerably cheaper than the Nikon equivalent. Like having quality 24mm f/2.8L, 28mm f/2.8L, 35mm f/2.8L, 50mm f/2.8L and 70mm f/2.8L lenses all in one, very convenient. Constant f/2.8 - allows you to isolate your subject, use the lens in lower light.

The Cons:Not truly as good as a full set of professional primes. 'boring' focal range. Big and heavy.

The Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM is a general-purpose lens released as an upgrade from the previous L-Series 28-70 f/2.8 lens. It offers an extended coverage to an ultra-wide-angle 24mm, making it ideal for digital as well as film shooters.

Featured also are dual Aspherical elements, an enhanced UD glass element, and a new seal / gasket from dust and moisture. Critics say the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM is especially sharp in the center at f/2.8 at all focal lengths, and that it performs well in the corners. It does however show more barrel distortion on the wide end. But critics hail the unit for its excellent color, contrast and saturation; it’s ultra-quiet, fast and accurate AF system; and an impressive Maximum Magnification (MM).
