The Pros:Light weight enough to no factor in significantly when handling the camera. Goes on and comes off quickly and easily. Auto-focus is accurate and does the job.

The Cons:Not the sharpest lens. Casing is fairly weak, need to be sure you don't tap it against anything. Auto-focus is a little slow compared to other lenses in the same range.

The Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II is a low-cost standard lens for SLR and digital SLR cameras. This is not as fast as the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM, and uses a linear extension system for focus adjustment driven by a Micromotor.

This means that the autofocus is slower, and additional features are missing which might correct distortion at the edges. This is the lightest EF lens at 4.6 oz (130 g), and the f/1.8 aperture is adequate for shooting in many low light conditions. Gaussian optics improve the narrow focus, allowing some natural blending of background elements. A manual focus mode is also available. At 1.6 inches (41 mm) in length, the compact design makes it portable and easier to store.
