The Canon EF-S 17-40mm f/4L USM is an ultra wide-angle zoom lens built for both film and digital SLRs. This is built to be a more affordable alternative to higher grade lenses like the Canon EF-S 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM.

Three Aspherical lens elements and a Super Ultra-low Dispersion glass element combine to provide high quality images, and a optical coatings have been applied to aid when the lens is used with digital cameras. The lens can focus as close as 11 inches, and uses a fast and silent autofocus in addition to a ring-type manual focus. Filters can be screwed into the 77mm fitting, or up to three gel filters can be placed in a holder in the rear. The construction is weather-resistant to allow the lens to be used in a maximum number of settings.
