Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
$200.00
Released January, 2008
The Pros:Small, short and light weight enough to not noticeably affect the camera's balance. Fast and accurate auto-focus, can be depended on in most situations. Mounts and comes off the camera easily.
The Cons:Stock kit lens - nothing special (slow, plastic build, 'boring' standard focal range, etc...). Slow aperture - f/3.5-5.6, poor in low light, cannot isolate subjects from their backgrounds as easily. Focus ring is small, found on the front of the lens.
The Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS is an affordable standard zoom lens with image stabilization. This is similar to the Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS in design and function, but has a much smaller focal length.

Optical Image Stabilizer technology is used to allow sharp images to be captured at up to 4 stops lower than what would normally be possible. Aspherical lens elements work to correct aberrations throughout the zoom range, improving image quality. The circular aperture narrows the focus on the subject, allowing the background to naturally go out of focus.
