Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4D IF-ED

$1,495.00 Released January, 2000

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Can focus in on tiny details of far-off objects. Auto-focus is accurate even at extended ranges. Zoom and focus are very quiet.

The Cons:Under very low light situations with a 1.7 teleconverter it takes some time for the lens to find the subject. Plastic body makes some nervous about the durability of the lens.

The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4D IF-ED is a lightweight fast-focusing telephoto lens for capturing fast-moving subjects. This is similar in design to the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/2.8G ED VR II, but comes at a lower cost due to the lack of advanced features like a Nano Crystal Coat or three-mode focus.

This lens is lighter at 50.8 oz, and the aperture ranges from f/4 to f/32, enabling photography of sports and wildlife in good lighting conditions. SWM technology is still used to allow fast and quiet focusing on a subject, and an M/A switch allows quick transitioning from AF to manual focus. Two Extra-low Dispersion (ED) elements work with the Super Integrated Coating (SIC) to reduce internal flare and distortions for a clear and crisp image. This is further enhanced by a built-in lens hood. Internal focusing allows focus adjustment without lengthening the lens.
